All about Anti Copying In Design (ACID)

ACID is the UK's leading membership & campaigning organisation for design & Intellectual Property(IP), and we have recently celebrated 25 years of fighting the fakes and combatting the copyists!

ACID is a trade association for designers and manufacturers with a diverse membership ranging from individuals to multinationals, and spanning many industry sectors. The ACID community spans over 700 members, ranging from lone, micro and SME designers and manufacturers to corporate, creative businesses.

ACID is built on five pillars: IP Education & Awareness, Prevention, Deterrence, Support and Campaigning. We actively engage with industry partners and stakeholders, working towards a safer commercial trading framework, enabling originators to fully exploit and maximise their IP rights. Moreover, we are committed to fighting design theft and lobbying Parliament for design law reform, so that UK designers and manufacturers are protected, supported and nurtured.

Our IP Charter is a collective voice to ensure respect, ethics and compliance is promoted, valued and maintained.

Our commitment to IP education and awareness means our members can access monthly webinars, webinar recordings and factsheets as well as legal agreement templates that can be downloaded and used time and time again. ACID members are also able to access an hour’s free legal advice from one of our six Legal Affiliate IP specialists and enjoy licensed use of the ‘Member of ACID’ logo; a strong deterrent to would be infringers that makes them think twice about copying!

As anyone who has ever been copied, or suspects copying, knows, the first thing you will need to turn to is an audit trail to prove date of creation and ownership. ACID members use the ACID IP Databank; a free, secure vault for members to upload designs and important documents. In so doing, they obtain a Police Intellectual Property Unit (PIPCU) endorsed certificate to give 3rd party evidence for that all important audit trail. The ACID IP Databank has a 10MB file limit, so you can even upload videos!

ACID also provide accreditation status for certain exhibitions, meaning the exhibition organiser has a zero tolerance to IP infringement and actively work alongside ACID with a strict exhibition protocol. It also means ACID and their legal affiliates will be in attendance for any assistance needed.

Hyve are an ACID accredited exhibition provider, and you can find the ACID team on stand 9L73  at Glee! We’ll be there for any questions, so please do come and say hello.
